36 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 36 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2012 spring quarter. Of the total, 14 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 13 from the men's outdoor squad, four from men's tennis, three from women's golf and two from women's tennis.

Hedberg Named to All-Big Sky Second Team
It didn’t take long for Eastern Washington University freshman Moira Hedberg to turn a few heads. Following her first season with the EWU women’s tennis team, Hedberg was recognized as one of the top 12 players in the Big Sky Conference. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, Hedberg was selected to the 2012 All-Big Sky Second Team.

Eastern's Season Comes to an End with 6-1 Loss to Montana State
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to the Bobcats of Montana State to close out the 2012 season. Eastern concludes the year at 4-15 overall and 2-6 in Big Sky Conference action. Although the team was unable to record a W, freshman Chrissy Uriarte picked up her second-straight victory at No. 3 singles, as she topped Wena Tsan, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Women’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to Montana
It was a tall task for the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team, which had to win both matches on the road this weekend against Montana and Montana State in order to have a shot at the postseason. But the Eagles went in hopeful. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side this Friday the 13th, as the Eagles fell to Montana, 6-1, at The Peak Racquet Club in Missoula, Mont.

Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season with Trip to the Montanas
It is the final week of the 2012 regular season, and both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams have a lot at stake. The men have already clinched a bid to the Big Sky Conference tournament, held April 21-22 in Sacramento, Calif., but seeding for the event is completely up in the air. The team can still finish anywhere from first to third in the standings, depending entirely on what happens this weekend.

Eagles Drop Two Tough Matches in Conference Play
After improving its record to 2-2 in the Big Sky Conference, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team dropped two consecutive conference matches against Weber State and Northern Arizona. The Eagles’ very close 4-3 loss to Weber gave the Wildcats their first mark in the win column on Saturday (April 7). Eastern then lost by a score of 5-1 to NAU on Sunday (April 8).

Eagles Finish Off Bengals in First of Three Matches This Week
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team defeated the Idaho State Bengals 4-0 at the Spokane Racquet Club on Wednesday (April 4). Eastern’s Big Sky Conference record sits at 2-2, and its overall record is now 4-11.

Eagles Back in Cheney for Three Important Big Sky Matchups
After playing nine-consecutive matches on the road, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will finally enjoy some home-court advantage - and it couldn’t have come at a better time. This week, the Eagles will take on three Big Sky opponents in Idaho State, Weber State and Northern Arizona. Eastern opens against ISU on Wednesday (April 4) before seeing WSU on Saturday (April 7) and NAU on Sunday (April 8).

Women’s Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to San Jose State; Match Against San Francisco Rained Out
After 40 minutes on the courts, the Eastern Washington University women's tennis team had to call it quits due to a downpour in San Francisco, Calif. Eastern was able to fit in a match against San Jose State the day before, but the Eagles suffered a 7-0 loss to the streaking Spartans, who have 10-consecutive matches.

Eagles Fall to No. 69 Sacramento State, 7-0
There’s a reason the Hornets of Sacramento State were selected as the unanimous favorite in this year’s Big Sky preseason coaches’ poll. Going up against its first nationally-ranked opponent this season, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team struggled against No. 69 Sacramento State, falling by a score of 7-0 at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Club in Sacramento, Calif.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Leave Snow Behind for Trio of Matches in California
Both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams are headed to California this weekend for three matches in four days. The men open against Pacific on Saturday (March 24) in Stockton, Calif., before taking on Fresno Pacific on Sunday (March 25) and Big Sky foe Sacramento State on Tuesday (March 27). First up for the women’s team will be Sac State, which was the unanimous favorite in this year’s Big Sky preseason coaches’ poll.

Hedberg Honored by Big Sky Conference
In her first year with the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team, freshman Moira Hedberg has turned a lot of heads. The rookie out of Oxnard, Calif., has played 11 of 12 matches at No. 1 singles, earning a 7-5 record on the season. Two of those wins came last weekend in Eastern’s trip to the west side. For her superior performances against Air Force and Seattle, Hedberg was tabbed as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week

Behind Stellar Performances from Two Freshmen, Eagles Avenge Early-Season Loss to Seattle
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team was able to gain a measure of revenge this weekend against the Redhawks of Seattle University. After losing to SU in its season opener by a narrow 4-3 margin, Eastern returned the favor on Sunday (March 18) at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash.

Eagles Head West to Play Air Force and Seattle
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team continues its nine-match road swing this weekend on the west side. The Eagles play Air Force on Saturday (March 17) at Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash., before taking on Seattle U on Sunday (March 18) at the same venue. Eastern enters the weekend with a 2-8 record.

Women’s Tennis Falls to Portland and Oregon
After celebrating its first Big Sky win of the season against Portland State, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team suffered two tough losses on the road to Portland and Oregon. Eastern fell to the Pilots, 5-2, on Saturday (March 10), before dropping a 6-1 decision to Oregon on Sunday (March 11). The Eagles are now 2-8 in the 2011-12 campaign.

Eagles Down Portland State, 5-2, for First Big Sky Win of Season
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team celebrated an important road win on Friday (March 9) when it defeated Big Sky foe Portland State, 5-2, at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash. Eastern, which lost its first six matches of the 2012 season, has now won two in a row.

Tennis Teams Gear Up for Busy Weekend
Both the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams are headed west for an action-packed weekend. The men’s team will take on No. 13 Washington on Friday (March 9) in Seattle, before facing Seattle U on Saturday (March 10). The will play three matches in three days, starting with a Big Sky Conference dual against Portland State on Friday in Portland, Ore.

Eagles Celebrate First Win of 2012 Campaign
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team finally got the monkey off its back. After six tough losses, the Eagles celebrated their first win of the 2012 campaign - a 6-1 decision over Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho. The Eagles took an early lead after winning two out of three doubles matches.

Freshmen Shine in Eastern’s 5-2 Loss to Gonzaga
That first win of the season continues to elude the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team. Eastern suffered its sixth-consecutive loss on Thursday (Feb. 16), as it fell to Gonzaga, 5-2, at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Although the team faltered as a whole, two of its youngest members stepped up for a couple inspiring wins in singles.

Eagles Host Gonzaga Thursday
Before packing its bags for nine-straight road matches, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will host cross-town rival Gonzaga on Thursday (Feb. 16) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. After a rocky 0-5 start to the year, the Eagles are hoping a little home-court advantage will help in their pursuit of the first win of the 2011-12 campaign. Gonzaga will enter the match with a 4-2 mark on the season.

Eagles Drop Two Matches in Boise
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team was not able to find its first win of the season this weekend in Boise, Idaho. The Eagles fell to host Boise State, 7-0, on Friday (Feb. 10) and then dropped a 6-1 decision to Idaho on Saturday (Feb. 11). With the two losses, EWU falls to 0-5 on the season. The Broncos were quite dominant in doubles action, winning at No. 1 and 2 by a score of 8-1. Junior Chelsea Patton and sophomore Kelsey Knight put up a strong fight at No. 3 doubles, but fell to BSU’s Kaitlyn Brown and Sonia Klamczynska, 8-5.

After a dominant performance in its Big Sky opener, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will try for another one this weekend, as it hosts Idaho State on Saturday at 10 a.m. (Feb. 11) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.

Women’s Tennis Blanked by Cougars
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the Cougars of Washington State on Friday (Feb. 3) morning at the Simmelink Tennis Courts in Pullman, Wash. The Eagles also fell in their season opener last weekend against Seattle, losing by a very narrow score of 4-3.

Women’s Tennis Gears Up for Busy Weekend
The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams will open their 2012 Big Sky Conference season at home this weekend in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. But due to inclement weather in the Denver area, the men’s match against Northern Colorado will take place a day later than originally scheduled. The women's home match against UNC is still on for Saturday (Feb. 5) at 10 a.m.

Tennis Stays Close to Home for Upcoming Matches
After Mother Nature interfered with its original season-opening weekend, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will finally make its 2012 debut this Saturday (Jan. 28) when it plays Seattle at 5:30 p.m. at the Spokane Club in Spokane, Wash.The men’s team will also be close to home, as it hosts Whitman on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Cheney, and then plays at Whitworth on Sunday (Jan. 29) in north Spokane.

Women’s Tennis Matches Rescheduled; All Other EWU Athletic Events are a Go
Due to severe winter weather throughout Washington and Oregon, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis matches originally scheduled in Eugene, Ore., this weekend have been postponed until March. The Eagles had planned to travel to Eugene to play Portland on Saturday (Jan. 21) and Oregon on Sunday (Jan. 22) for their 2012 season openers.

The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams will hit the road this weekend for a pair of season opening matches. The men will head east to play St. Mary’s and Boise State in Boise, Idaho, while the women travel west to take on Portland and Oregon in Eugene.

Men’s Tennis Selected Fourth; Women Fifth in Big Sky Preseason Polls
If predictions are correct, the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team will be back in the Big Sky tournament this year after a two-year hiatus, while the women are expected to be right on the cusp of earning one of four coveted postseason bids. In the 2012 Big Sky preseason polls released Wednesday (Jan. 11) by the league office, the Eagle men were selected fourth and the women fifth out of nine Big Sky teams.

Rookies Shine at Ducks Invitational
The future certainly looks bright for the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team. This past weekend, the Eagles competed at the Ducks Invitational in Eugene, Ore. Highlighting Eastern’s many notable performances at the event was the play from a few of its rookie members. In singles action, freshman Moira Hedberg won three-consecutive matches to advance to the semifinals of the main draw.

Eagles Have Strong Showing in Three-Day Home Event
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team wrapped up play from its own EWU Fall Women’s Classic, held Friday (Sept. 30) - Sunday (Oct. 2) at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center courts in Cheney, Wash. The three-day tournament featured more than 50 athletes from familiar schools that included Gonzaga, Washington State, Seattle U, Montana and Montana State.

After a successful home opener for the men, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will now take to the courts, as it hosts EWU Fall Women’s Classic Friday (Sept. 30) - Sunday (Oct. 2) in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles opened their season last weekend at the Cougar Classic in Pullman, where each player on the squad recorded at least one win.

Eastern Washington University head tennis coach Darren Haworth is pleased to announce the hiring of Mykala Hedberg as the new associate head women’s coach at Eastern. Hedberg comes to Cheney after a highly successful collegiate playing career at Louisiana State University
