After a narrow loss in its season opener, Eastern looking for retribution against Redhawks
The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team continues its nine-match road swing this weekend on the west side. The Eagles play Air Force on Saturday (March 17) at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash., before taking on Seattle U on Sunday (March 18) at the same venue.
Eastern enters the weekend with a 2-8 record. Its first opponent, Air Force, boasts a 10-3 overall mark in the 2012 campaign. The Falcons have defeated three Big Sky squads this year, including Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona and Portland State.
Eastern also recorded a win against PSU last week, but the Eagles did lose earlier in the season to Northern Colorado, which the Falcons beat 7-0.
Following the dual with Air Force, the Eagles will turn their attention to Seattle - a team that handed EWU a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in its 2012 season opener.
Despite capturing the coveted doubles point in that match on Jan. 28, EWU could not sustain the advantage through singles. Freshman Moira Hedberg won her match at No. 2 and junior Ryann Warner triumphed at No. 4, but the Eagles lost in straight sets at No. 1, 3, 5 and 6.
The Redhawks are 7-9 on the season, with wins against Weber State, Idaho State and Portland State. Seattle U did lose to Montana, 5-2, on Feb. 12. Going in with a small chip on its shoulder, Eastern is certainly keen on becoming just the second Big Sky team to knock off Seattle U this year.
