One anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury can be tough to overcome for an athlete, but it takes a special person to battle through two reconstructive knee surgeries and the long rehabilitation process related to such injuries. But Eastern Washington University senior women’s tennis player Kelsey Knight has survived them both to finish her career on the court and not the alternative of watching from the sideline.

The final score may read 7-0, but this match was in fact one of the more competitive outings of the year for the Eastern Washington University women’s team. In a midweek matchup between familiar rivals, the Vandals of Idaho managed to outlast EWU for a 7-0 victory on Wednesday (March 6) at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho.

Women’s Tennis Drops Pair of 6-1 Matches to Oregon and Portland
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team continues to be tested in the early-goings of its 2013 season. After facing No. 60 Wyoming in its season opener, EWU played its second-straight nationally-ranked opponent in No. 66 Oregon this weekend in Eugene, Ore. The Eagles dropped the match to the Ducks by a score of 6-1. EWU then played Portland, suffering the same 6-1 fate against the Pilots.

The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams will continue their fall seasons this weekend with a couple of competitive tournaments on the road. The men’s team will have two individuals competing at the ITA All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying tournament in Tulsa, Okla., while the women’s team heads to Boise, Idaho for the Jack Taylor Classic Sept. 28-30.

After just one week of practice since returning from summer break, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will take to the courts for its first competition of the 2012-13 season. The Eagles will make the short trip to Pullman, Wash., for the 2012 Cougar Classic, Sept. 14-16 at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

36 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 36 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2012 spring quarter. Of the total, 14 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 13 from the men's outdoor squad, four from men's tennis, three from women's golf and two from women's tennis.

Hedberg Named to All-Big Sky Second Team
It didn’t take long for Eastern Washington University freshman Moira Hedberg to turn a few heads. Following her first season with the EWU women’s tennis team, Hedberg was recognized as one of the top 12 players in the Big Sky Conference. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, Hedberg was selected to the 2012 All-Big Sky Second Team.
