Women's Tennis Drops Midweek Match At PAC-12 Foe Washington State

Pullman, Wash. - The Eastern Washington women's tennis team fell to PAC-12 member Washington State, 6-1, in a midweek nonconference match Tuesday, Mar. 11.

Eastern (3-9) dropped the doubles point to start the match, and freshman Malieva Hedberg was the lone Eagle to win a singles match.

"Washington State is a very good team," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "I thought we brought a good effort to the match."

Playing in the No. 6 position, Malieva Hedberg bested Washington State's Emily Funabiki, 8-4.

Junior Moira Hedberg stole three games off of the Cougars' top player, Elizaveta Luzina, in the first set before ultimately falling 6-3, 6-1.

Dani Young battled hard in the No. 2 position before losing to WSU's Lize Leenknecht 6-3, 6-2.

Eastern is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 22, in a Big Sky match at Sacramento State.
