Mankovits Named BSC Player of the Week
March 26, 2008
Amanda Mankovits of the Eastern Washington University women's tennis team has earned Big Sky Conference Co-Player of the Week honors after having a perfect week in more ways than one.
In a 6-1 defeat of Weber State in a league match on Saturday (March 22), she recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court five. That was the first double-love win by an Eastern player in a spring match since Jennifer Jolley accomplished the feat in the sixth position in a 4-3 win over Northern Colorado on April 14, 2006.
She preceded that performance by teaming with Kasey Knox to earn EWU's only doubles victory of the day, an 8-4 win on court one. The next day, Mankovits contributed a 6-0, 6-2 singles victory and, with Knox, an 8-3 doubles win to complete her impressive weekend of play.
Mankovits has helped the Eagles to an outstanding 8-1 record in their last nine matches. Eastern Washington (8-6) is now 4-1 in league play and have already tied the school record for Big Sky wins in a year.
The Eagles play at Pacific at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (March 26).
