EWU Names Scholar-Athletes for March
April 16, 2009
Tennis player Rachel Berger and track and field athlete Paul Limpf have been selected by the Eastern Washington University athletics department as its Scholar-Athletes for the month of March.
Berger recorded her 41st career singles win on Tuesday (April
14) versus Idaho to set the school record in that category,
snapping a tie she had held with Tina Dlouhy (1993-96). Over her
four years, the senior has helped lead the Eagles to 33 victories,
13 in Big Sky Conference play, a significant improvement over the
previous four-year span (seven and three, respectively).

Limpf had a time of 29:45.89 in the 10,000 meters at the
Stanford Invitational on March 28 to break the previous school
record of 29:48.6 set by Rick Adams in 1978. The senior, who also
qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships with that time,
had a previous personal-best time of 29:57.13 in 2008.

Berger will play with the Eagles in a Big Sky quarterfinal
contest versus an opponent still to be determined at 2 p.m. on
April 24. That match will take place in Gold River, Calif. Limpf
will compete next at the Mt. Sac Relays/Combined Events in Walnut,
Calif., from Thursday-Saturday (April 16-18).
