Mattie Bridgmon Qualifies for the BSC Championships

Curtis Suver broke Eastern's school record in the 5,000 meters and Mattie Bridgmon qualified for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships in the 3,000 meters as the Eastern Washington University track and field teams competed Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.

Senior Suver broke the school record in the 5,000 with a time of 14:03.64 to qualify him for the BSC Championships. He placed 11 out of 60 runners as he broke the previous school record of 14:07.03 set by John Timeus in 2006. Suver holds school records in the 3,000 and 5,000 and is qualified for the Big Sky Championships in both events.

Other top finishers for Eastern's men's team were Joshua Jones (200m/ 23.06), Erik Walter (800m/1:54.73), Brandon Lattin (60m-hurdles/9.67), Kersee Lind (pole vault/15-1 1/2) and Gabe Chavez (pole vault/14-7 1/2).

On the women's side, Bridgmon is now ranked second on Eastern's all-time best list in the 3,000 with a time of 9:48.87 as she qualified for the BSC Indoor Championships. She placed 27 out of 71 in the meet. Her previous best time was 10:14.86 at the McDonald's Open (Feb. 9).

Other top finishers for the women were Shannon Long (60m/8.05), Shene Davis (60m/8.07), Lauren Matthews (400m/59.09), Nikki Buchholtz (mile/5:22.61) and Irene Lowe (high jump/ 5-00 1/2).

The Eagles will travel to Pullman, Wash., to compete in the WSU Indoor Open II (Feb. 22-23).
