Eagles Exceed Big Sky Qualifying Standards Five Times in California

Eastern Washington University's Shannon Long, Sarah Frey, Alex McNairy and Chad Butorac qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships as several Eagles competed this weekend at the Beach Invitational (April 19) in Long Beach, Calif.

Frey qualified for the conference championships in the 400 by finishing 13th with a time of 57.79. She also qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.73 to rank her eighth in school history. She finished seventh out of 23 competitors.

Long qualified for the Big Sky Championships in the 200 meters with a time of 25.40 to finish 18th out of 61 runners. McNairy qualified for the BSC Championships in the 400 meters with a time of 57.26 to finish ninth out of 37 athletes. Her time ranks her 10th in school history.

On the men's side, Butorac qualified for the BSC Championships in the 200 meters with a time of 21.97 to finish 16th out of 61 athletes in that event. In the 400 meters he finished 14th out of 63 competitors with a time of 49.12.

The Eagles will compete in different venues this week as athletes will compete in Eugene, Ore., at the Oregon Relays (April 25-26) and in Pullman, Wash., at the Cougar Invitational (April 26).
