Eagle Track & Field Announces Six Women Signees

Five female high school athletes from the state of Washington and one athlete from Montana have signed letters of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and compete in track and field for the Eagles. 

The signees include three sprinters from Washington -- Gale Nelson from Nine Mile Falls, Ashley Stabl from Farmington and Kelly Downey from Okanogan. Other female athletes signed were distance runner Tera Klein from Kalispell, Mont., hurdler Olivia Johnson from Kennewick, Wash., and jumper Jennifer Wamsley out of Auburn, Wash.

Kelly Downey Sprints/Jumps Fr. HS Okanogan, Wash. (Okanogan HS '08)
Kelley Downey finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.01 and ninth in the long jump with an effort of 15-9 1/2 at the 2008 WIAA State 1A Championships. In 2007, she won the 800 with a time of 2:17.0. Her best marks in high school were in the 100 (13.34), 200 (26.94), 400 (1:00.84), 800 (2:17.0), 1,600 (5:27.0), javelin (78-5) and long jump (16-1).
 

Tera Klein Distance Fr. HS Kalispell, Mont. (Flathead HS '08)
Tera Klein was a four-year letter winner in cross country and was named her team's Most Valuable Runner two years in a row. In 2007, she finished 22nd at the Montana State Championships. She was also 10th in 2006 and 12th in 2005 when she was her team's Most Improved Runner. As a freshman, she finished 27th at State and was her team's Rookie of the Year. 

Ashley Stabl Sprints Fr. HS Farmington, Wash. (Tekoa-Oakesdale HS '08)
Ashley Stabl won both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and finished second in the 200 meters at the 2008 WIAA State 2B Championships. In 2007, she finished first in the 300 hurdles and second in both the 100 hurdles and 400 meters. Her best marks in high school were in the 100 (12.79), 200 (25.74), 400 (59.84), 100 hurdles (14.80), 300 hurdles (44.15) and long jump (14-8 3/4). 

Olivia Johnston Hurdles Fr. HS Kennewick, Wash. (Kamiakin HS '08)
Olivia Johnson finished second in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles at the 2008 WIAA State 3A Championships. At the 2007 championships, Johnson finished third in the 300 hurdles. Her best marks in high school were in the 100 (12.89), 200 (26.33), 100 hurdles (15.25), 300 hurdles (43.99) and long jump (15-1).
 

Gale Nelson Sprints Fr. HS Nine Mile Falls, Wash. (Lakeside HS '08)
Gale Nelson finished third in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters at the 2008 WIAA State 1A Championships. At the 2007 championships, Nelson finished second in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters. Her best times in high school were in the 100 (12.42), 200 (25.73) and 400 (1:14.04).

Jennifer Wamsley Sprints/Jumps Fr. HS Auburn, Wash. (Thomas Jefferson HS '08)
Jennifer Wamsley finished 10th in the high jump at the 2008 WIAA State 4A Championships. At the 2007 championships Wamsley finished fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Her high school best marks were in the 200 (27.0), 400 (1:05.0), high jump (5-5), long jump (16-7) and triple jump (36-3 1/2).
