High School: Bekkering arrives at Eastern with a number of accolades. She helped lead her St. Joseph's High School squad to a 5A provincial championship in 2007, while the Guardians claimed city championships in 2007 and in 2006. In the summer of 2005, Bekkering was one of 16 players selected to participate with the Canada Youth National Team. Two years later, she played on the 18U Saskatchewan provincial team against other players who represented their provinces. She played her club volleyball for Saskatoon JCVC Extreme and participated in the High Performance Camp, a week-long invitational camp that included about 25 players from throughout Canada. She also claimed the spike accuracy competition at the 2007 Mustang Volley Volleyball Tournament. Bekkering played club soccer until her junior year of high school and was on the senior basketball team her first two years of high school before she placed her focus on volleyball. Former Eagle and current Austrian pro player Christina Albers is also a graduate of SJHS. Albers averaged 11.71 assists her two-year career with the Eagles (2004-05), the most in school history. Her parents are Harry and Denise Bekkering.
