Eastern Washington opened its four-match road trip to the New York City area with a 3-0 sweep of Manhattan College Wednesday (Aug. 30) in Riverdale, N.Y. The scores were 30-19, 30-23 and 30-21.

Senior Chrystal Johnson led EWU with 10 kills, a .350 hitting percentage and three blocks as the Eagles improved to 4-1 this season. Eastern held the Lady Jaspers to a .000 hitting percentage as EWU forcied 31 hitting errors and allowed just 31 kills in 118 Manhattan attempts.

Brittney Page, this week's Big Sky Conference Co-Player of the Week, added eight kills and four blocks. Eastern finished with 12 blocks as a team, led by the seven of former Eagle basketball player Raelynn Chaffee.

Freshman Hayley Hills added seven kills and sophomore Addie Webster chipped in seven kills and a team-high 10 digs. Kristen Ponce added nine digs and Mandy Daniels had six.

Three Eastern setters had at least 10 assists, led by the 15 of freshman Amanda Yausie. Leah Gandauli had 14 and Julia Reis added 10.

Eastern hit .233 in the first game while holding the Lady Jaspers to a minus .081 percentage. Eastern hit .235 in the second game compared to .000 for Manhattan, and in the second game Eastern out-high Manhattan .350 to .067.

The Eagles return to action Friday (Sept. 1) by taking on St. Peter's and St. Francis in a pair of matches in the St. Peter's Tournament in Jersey City, N.J. The road trip concludes on Sept. 4 at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J.
