Eagles Win Tourney to Improve to 6-1

Improving to 6-1 on the season, Eastern Washington defeated St. Francis and St. Peter's to win the Peahen Invitational Volleyball Tournament Friday (Sept. 1) in Jersey City, N.J.

Eastern opened the day by defeating the St. Francis Terriers 30-11, 30-10, 30-10. Eastern closed the day with a 30-26, 30-12, 30-13 triumph over the St. Peter's Peahens.

Eastern concludes its season-opening road trip by playing at Rider University on Monday (Sept. 4) in Lawrenceville, N.J. That will be the eighth match in 11 days for the Eagles, who return to the Inland Northwest to play at Gonzaga on Sept. 12 in Spokane.

Senior Brittney Page led the Eagles with 12 kills and a .478 hitting percentage versus St. Peter's. Chrystal Johnson had nine kills and Raelynn Chaffee added four kills, four blocks and hit .667.

Junior Julia Reis added a team-high 12 digs and freshman Stephanie Baker had four ace serves. As a team, Eastern out-hit St. Peter's .350 to .109 and had 11 ace serves.

Against St. Francis earlier in the day, Page nearly set a school record with a .875 hitting percentage as she finished with 15 kills and just one error in 16 attempts. The record is .900 set by Janelle Ruen when she hit .900 versus Texas-Pan American in 2000 when she had nine kills an no errors in 10 attempts.

Freshman Hayley Hills added 13 kills and Reis finished with eight kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Baker and Kristen Ponce each had 10 digs. Setter Amanda Yausie had 26 assists.

Eastern hit .569 in the match compared to a negative .138 for the Terriers. Eastern's school record is .627 versus Texas-Pan American in 2000.
