Eagles Sign Arizona Transfer

Jan. 31, 2007

Ashley Hamilton, a transfer from the University of Arizona, will join the Eastern Washington University volleyball program for the 2007 season. Prior to arriving at the Pac-10 school, she was a four-year letterwinner and part of two state championship teams at Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah.

"Ashley is a highly-regarded juniors player from a high-level club team in Salt Lake City (Summit Volleyball Club)," head coach Wade Benson said. "She was highly recruited out of high school and went to the University of Arizona, and we are just extremely lucky to get her. I am very exited to have her in the program and to see the setting competition between her and Amanda (Yausie)."

While at the U of A, Hamilton saw action in eight games and recorded 10 assists, a pair of digs and a block assist.

Individual honors earned prior to arriving in Tucson included being named a Volleyball Magazine "Fab 50" selection and being ranked 71st nationally in the PrepVolleyball.com Senior Aces list. She was also honored as a 2004 and 2005 PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American.

Local honors in Utah included being named first team all-state as a senior by both the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News. She also earned accolades as the 2003 and 2004 4A state MVP and as the 2004 Utah Valley Player of the Year.

In the classroom, she was honored as a member of the National Honor Roll and the National Honor Society.

Hamilton is part of an athletic family, as her father played football and wrestled at BYU, her mother played volleyball at the same school, and her brother is currently a defensive lineman at Yale.

She has arrived on campus and is currently taking winter term classes.
