Eagles Clinch Third Seed on Senior Night
Nov. 11, 2006
The Eastern Washington University volleyball squad (18-8, 10-6 Big Sky Conference) clinched the third seed with a convincing 30-23, 30-25, 30-28 victory over Montana on Saturday night (Nov. 11). The Eagles entered the contest tied for third place with the Lady Griz. The match served as Eastern's last home contest of the season.
The Eagles have now finished in third place or higher in the Big Sky regular-season standings for 11 consecutive seasons.
The Big Sky Conference Tournament is now set. Eastern will take on the sixth seed, Weber State, at 5 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 16). The Wildcats earned a road 30-28, 31-29, 30-22 win over Northern Arizona in a winner-take-all contest for the sixth seed.
Eastern Washington has now claimed four straight decisions and 11-of-12 with the only setback being a tight 26-30, 30-26, 32-34, 30-24, 17-15 loss to regular-season champion Sacramento State on Oct. 28. The Wildcats are on a hot streak, as well, as they have won five straight decisions.
Mandy Daniels tallied an incredible total of 20 digs through two games and finished with 21. That ties the most recorded by an Eagle in a three-game match in 2006, as she also had 21 in EWU's 3-0 win over Montana State on Thursday. Addie Webster contributed 10 digs.
Kerri Beck had six blocks, the second-straight match that she has tallied that many.
Eastern went on a 5-1 run mid-way through game one to pull just enough away from Montana for a 17-11 lead on its way to the 30-23 win. The second game was close throughout, and Eastern pulled out the 30-25 victory. In the third stanza, Montana took a 21-16 lead, but Eastern responded with a commanding 9-1 run for a 25-22 edge on its way to the 30-28 win.
